INTERPRETASI SEMIOTIK TERHADAP NILAI MORAL, SOSIAL, DAN BUDAYA DALAM NOVEL SI PUTIH KARYA TERE LIYE

Abstract

Novels, as literary works, function not only as a medium of entertainment but also as representations of various life values constructed through a system of signs. A semiotic approach allows for the interpretation of the meanings contained in these signs, allowing for a deeper understanding of the moral, social, and cultural values conveyed by the author. This study aims to describe the semiotic interpretation of moral, social, and cultural values in Tere Liye's novel Si Putih. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a semiotic approach. The data source is Tere Liye's novel Si Putih, while the research data consist of words, phrases, sentences, dialogue, narratives, and character actions that represent signs containing moral, social, and cultural values. Data collection techniques were conducted through literature review, reading techniques, and note-taking techniques. While data analysis was conducted through the processes of identification, classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions based on the concepts of signifier and signified.

The results show that moral values are represented through signs depicting sacrifice, courage, honesty in admitting mistakes, concern for the environment, and sincerity in separation. Social values are reflected in empathy, social awareness, loyalty, reciprocity, mutual respect, courtesy, discipline, curiosity, and a spirit of mutual assistance, all of which are manifested through interactions between characters. Cultural values are evident in traditions of hospitality, the habit of helping each other, respecting guests, the use of technology in community life, and conflict resolution through cultural values. Semiotic analysis shows that the signs constructed by the author function as a medium for conveying meaning that deeply represents life values. Thus, the novel *Si Putih* presents not only an adventure story but also serves as a medium for reflection on character formation and the preservation of moral, social, and cultural values in community life.
