NILAI MORAL DALAM TRADISI BALES LAMPAK NAE PADA PERKAWINAN SUKU SASAK (STUDI DI DESA AIK MUAL KABUPATEN LOMBOK TENGAH)

Abstract

Modernization and technological advancements have influenced the younger generation’s perspective on local traditions, potentially diminishing their understanding of the moral values embedded within them. This study aims to analyze the moral values in the Bales Lampak Nae tradition in Sasak weddings and to examine young people’s perceptions and interpretations of this tradition amid the tide of modernization in Aikmual Village, Central Lombok Regency. This study employs a qualitative research design with an ethnographic approach. Informants were selected using snowball sampling, while data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that the Bales Lampak Nae tradition embodies moral values—including religious values, ethics or etiquette, and kinship—that play a role in strengthening social bonds, fostering social harmony, and passing on cultural values to the younger generation. Although modernization has led to a decline in participation among some young people, they still view this tradition as a relevant cultural identity. This study concludes that Bales Lampak Nae serves not only as a series of traditional wedding rituals but also as a medium for character education and cultural preservation; therefore, increased participation by the younger generation is necessary to ensure the tradition’s continuity.
