PENGARUH PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MENULIS CERPEN SISWA KELAS XI DI SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 9 KUALUH HULU

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low short story writing skills, particularly in determining titles, developing intrinsic elements, constructing short story structures, and applying linguistic rules. This study aims to determine the short story writing skills of students taught using the Cooperative Learning model, the short story writing skills of students taught using the Self-Directed Learning model, and the effect of the Self-Directed Learning model on the short story writing skills of grade XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Kualuh Hulu. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type and a Two Group Posttest Only Control Design. The study population was 282 students, while the sample was determined through a random sampling technique, namely grade XI-1 as the control class (31 students) and grade XI-2 as the experimental class (35 students). Data were collected through a short story writing test and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Sample t-Tests. The results showed that the average short story writing ability score of the control class was 64.94, while the experimental class was 84.47. The results of the hypothesis test showed a calculated t_value = 13.148 > t_table = 1.998, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Thus, H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, so it can be concluded that the implementation of the Self-Directed Learning  model has a significant effect on the short story writing ability of grade XI students of SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Kualuh Hulu
