Abstract

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to improve literacy, support child development, provide education to parents, and foster character in children in Medan City. The program was implemented using a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The target group included children from early childhood to elementary school age and their parents. The program implemented activities through shared reading, storytelling, educational games, education on positive parenting, monitoring child development, and character development through group games and fostering positive behavioral habits. Results showed an increase in children's interest in reading and participation in the learning process, as well as an increased understanding among parents of the importance of learning support, positive parenting, and monitoring child development. Furthermore, the character development activities had a positive impact on children's discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and caring. Overall, this community service program benefits both children and parents and demonstrates the crucial role collaboration between universities, families, schools, and the community plays in supporting optimal and sustainable child development.
