Abstract

This study examines the improvement of computer usage skills in a blind student using screen reader teaching materials at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. The formulation of the problem in this study is 1) How is the ability to use a computer before using the screen reader teaching materials for the blind student? 2) How is the ability to use a computer after using the screen reader teaching materials? 3) Is there an improvement in the ability to use a computer in the blind student after being given the teaching materials? This study aims to determine the student's capability before and after the intervention, as well as to identify any significant improvement. This study is a quantitative descriptive study. The results indicate that the ability to use a computer before the application of the screen reader material was in the poor category (score 39), and after the application, it improved significantly to the good category (score 60). It can be concluded that 1) the ability before the intervention is lacking, 2) the ability after the intervention is good, and 3) there is a significant increase in computer skills, although constrained by limited school facilities.
