Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning motivation of students in Fiqh subjects in class VII.A MTs Al-Munawwarah Lumu, Central Mamuju Regency. This condition is characterized by a lack of student attention during learning, low participation in discussions, and learning outcomes that are still below the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM). This study aims to improve student learning motivation through the application of the Crossword Puzzle strategy in Fiqh subjects. The study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with the Kemmis and McTaggart model which was carried out in two cycles, each cycle including the planning stage, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 34 students of class VII.A MTs Al-Munawwarah Lumu, Central Mamuju Regency. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and pre-tests. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively through descriptive analysis, calculation of average values, and percentages. The results showed that the application of the Crossword Puzzle strategy was able to improve student learning motivation. This can be seen from the increasing activity of students during the learning process, such as attention to teacher explanations, activeness in discussions, courage to ask questions and present work results, and enthusiasm for participating in learning. The results of the learning motivation questionnaire in cycle I obtained an average percentage of 72.14% with a good category, then increased to 86.68% in cycle II with a very good category and has exceeded the established success indicator, which is 75%. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Crossword Puzzle strategy is effective in increasing student learning motivation in the Fiqh subject of class VII.A MTs Al-Munawwarah Lumu, Central Mamuju Regency.
