KEPRIBADIAN TOKOH GADIS DALAM NOVEL SESUK KARYA TERE LIYE: KAJIAN PSIKOLOGI SASTRA GORDON ALLPORT

Abstract

The phenomenon of parentification experienced by the eldest child can influence the formation of an individual's personality and has become one of the issues frequently represented in literary works. The phenomenon is depicted in the character Gadis in the novel Sesuk by Tere Liye, who has a complex personality dynamic due to the roles and responsibilities she bears within her family. This research aims to describe the cardinal trait, central trait, and secondary trait of the character Gadis based on Gordon W. Allport's personality theory. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The data source is the novel Sesuk by Tere Liye, while the research data consists of quotes, sentences, dialogs, and narratives that illustrate the personality of the character Gadis. Data were collected using the read and note technique, then analyzed based on Gordon W. Allport's trait theory. The research results show that the cardinal trait of the character Gadis is a sense of responsibility toward her family, which dominates her mindset, decisions, and actions. The central traits of the character Gadis include independence, care, a protective attitude, social sensitivity, self-control, caution, adaptability, and respect for parents. The secondary traits include the need for emotional closeness and affection, affection and appreciation, a reflective attitude, emotional sensitivity, a tendency to suppress emotions, emotional vulnerability, and curiosity. Research findings indicate that the experience of parentification plays a role in shaping the complexity of the character's personality.
