PENGARUH SALAH PILIH JURUSAN TERHADAP DEMOTIVASI KULIAH PADA MAHASISWA UNIVERSITAS NEGERI JAKARTA

Choosing a major is an important decision in higher education because it influences students’ learning motivation and academic achievement. A mismatch between a student’s major and their interests, talents, and abilities may lead to academic demotivation. This study aims to examine the effect of major mismatch on academic demotivation among students at Jakarta State University. A quantitative survey method was employed involving 31 active students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a four-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results indicate that major mismatch has a positive and significant effect on academic demotivation (p < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.765. These findings suggest that major mismatch substantially contributes to academic demotivation among university students.
