Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning motivation of second-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students in Indonesian language subjects. The condition was indicated by students’ lack of attention during the learning process, low participation in classroom activities, and limited enthusiasm when the teacher explained the material. This study aimed to improve students’ learning motivation through the use of audio-visual media in Indonesian language learning. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 24 second-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the use of audio-visual media effectively improved students’ learning motivation in Indonesian language subjects. In the initial condition, students’ learning motivation was only 54.16% and categorized as low. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, the percentage increased to 71.25% and reached 86.67% in Cycle II, categorized as very good. In addition, students became more active, enthusiastic, and confident during the learning process. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of audio-visual media can improve the learning motivation of second-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students in Indonesian language learning.
