Emotional Intelligence Work Engagement Generation Z

Abstract

Generation Z is a group that is beginning to dominate the workforce and faces various challenges in adapting to the work environment. These conditions can affect individuals' levels of work engagement. This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement among Generation Z members who are currently employed. This study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study sample consisted of 300 Generation Z respondents aged 18–29 years, selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). Data analysis employed Spearman's correlation test; the results indicated a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement (r = 0.649; p = 0.000). These results indicate that individuals with higher emotional intelligence tend to have higher levels of work engagement. Thus, emotional intelligence is one of the factors associated with work engagement among Generation Z members who are currently employed.
