PENERAPAN PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) BERBASIS ISU SOSIAL DALAM PEMBELAJARAN PPKn SEBAGAI UPAYA PENGUATAN KARAKTER TANGGUNG JAWAB SISWA KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 3 KEDUNGWARU

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of strengthening students' responsible character in learning Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn). One effort that can be done is through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on social issues that link learning materials with real problems in the student's environment. This study aims to describe the application and supporting and inhibiting factors of PBL based on social issues as an effort to strengthen the responsible character of class VII B students of SMPN 3 Kedungwaru. The qualitative approach method with descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study (1) The application of PBL based on social issues increased students' activeness in discussions, critical thinking, understanding the material, and fostering a responsible character at the individual and social levels. The implementation of PBL based on social issues was carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Social issues relevant to students' lives such as lateness to class, bullying, impolite behavior, and low sense of responsibility in group work as triggers for learning problem situations. (2) Supporting factors found included teacher readiness, availability of learning tools, and student enthusiasm; Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited learning time, limited internet access and LCD displays at school, and varying levels of student activity. Thus, the implementation of social issue-based PBL has been successful in strengthening students' sense of responsibility in civics learning.
