This study examines university students' digital ethical awareness in the use of political satirical memes on the X platform, focusing on usage practices, the level of digital ethical awareness, and the factors influencing it. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven students from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), two experts in digital citizenship, and one representative from the Office of Communication, Information, and Public Services (KKIP) of UPI. The data collection was complemented by non-participant observation and document analysis. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verified using source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that students use political satirical memes for entertainment, political criticism, education, and identity expression through liking, commenting, reposting, and sharing content across platforms. Students' digital ethical awareness varies considerably. While some consistently apply the principles of digital etiquette and digital rights and responsibilities, others tend to prioritize freedom of expression over ethical, social, and legal considerations. This awareness is shaped by internal factors, including family values, personal experiences, and academic background, as well as external factors, such as peer influence, platform algorithms, echo chambers, content management features, and digital regulations. This study recommends strengthening students' digital civic disposition through a more contextual integration of digital ethics into citizenship education.
