ANALISIS NILAI-NILAI MORAL DALAM NOVEL JAGAT LINGGA ERLANGGA DAN RELEVANSINYA SEBAGAI MATERI AJAR TEKS CERITA FIKSI KELAS VIII DI SMP NEGERI 8 MEDAN

Abstract

This study aims to describe the moral values contained in the novel Jagat Lingga Erlangga by Restu Fitria and to explain its relevance as teaching material for fictional narrative texts in Grade VIII of junior high school. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a content analysis approach. The data source was the novel Jagat Lingga Erlangga by Restu Fitria, while the research data consisted of quotations containing moral values. Data were collected through reading, note-taking, identifying, classifying, and analyzing relevant data. The analysis of moral values was based on Paul Suparno’s theory, which includes religiosity, sociality, honesty, independence, responsibility, perseverance, gender equality, and respect for the natural environment. The relevance of the findings was examined based on their alignment with the Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes in the Merdeka Curriculum and the learning needs of fictional narrative texts for Grade VIII students. The results of the study indicate that the novel Jagat Lingga Erlangga contains various moral values reflected through the characters’ actions, dialogues, and behaviors. The identified values include religiosity, sociality, honesty, independence, responsibility, perseverance, gender equality, and respect for the natural environment. Sociality emerged as the most dominant moral value, as it is frequently portrayed through attitudes of helping others, caring, empathy, and solidarity among the characters. Furthermore, the findings reveal that the novel is relevant as teaching material for fictional narrative texts in Grade VIII because it aligns with the learning outcomes of the Reading and Viewing element, presents content closely related to students’ lives, uses accessible language, and incorporates character values that support the development of the Pancasila Student Profile. Therefore, Jagat Lingga Erlangga is considered suitable as an alternative teaching material in Indonesian language learning at the junior high school level.
