Abstract

The construction industry significantly contributes to global carbon emissions, driving the urgency for sustainable and eco-friendly wall material innovations. This study aims to map the trends and evolution of literature regarding sustainable wall material innovations using a bibliometric analysis approach from 2016 to 2026. The research employs a descriptive quantitative method by extracting article metadata from the Google Scholar database using Publish or Perish software. The filtered final data was then analyzed using VOSviewer to generate Network Visualization, Overlay Visualization, and Density Visualization. The network analysis results indicate that global literature is still dominated by the utilization of recycled materials and waste bricks as macro-aggregate substitutes, while regional studies using local terminology remain in peripheral areas. Based on the evolutionary analysis, research trends exhibit a measurable shift from macro-mechanical strength testing toward micro-level material engineering, encompassing the use of alternative precursors and hydration kinetics behavior. Furthermore, the density mapping identified highly potential research gaps in the topics of hydration kinetics, modified thermal property evaluation, and pore maker optimization. These findings conclude that the future direction of sustainable construction material development should not solely focus on structural strength but must integrate micro-chemical interaction analysis and thermal insulation performance to comprehensively support building energy efficiency.
