Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of interval training on improving the endurance of soccer players at Universitas Negeri Medan. The research method used an experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 60 soccer players divided into two groups: experimental group (30 players) and control group (30 players). The experimental group was given interval training for 8 weeks with gradually increased intensity, while the control group received conventional training. Endurance measurement was performed using the Cooper 12-minute running test. The results showed that interval training significantly improved the aerobic endurance of soccer players compared to conventional training (p < 0.05). The average increase in VO2max capacity in the experimental group reached 18.5%, while the control group only reached 7.2%. The conclusion of this study is that interval training is a very effective training method to improve the endurance of soccer players.
