OPTIMALISASI PENGGUNAAN APLIKASI INSTAGRAM UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN ANALISIS PENGGUNAAN EJAAN YANG DISEMPURNAKAN (EYD) PADA MAHASISWA JURUSAN TEKNIK SIPIL POLITEKNIK NEGERI MEDAN

Abstract

The ability to use Indonesian language according to proper spelling rules (EYD) is an important supporting competency for higher education students, including civil engineering students. Civil engineering students are required not only to master technical competencies but also to prepare academic and professional documents such as practical reports, research reports, proposals, and technical documents using proper Indonesian language. This study aims to optimize Instagram application usage as a learning medium to improve the ability of Civil Engineering students at Medan State Polytechnic in analyzing Indonesian spelling usage. This study employed Classroom Action Research with a descriptive quantitative approach. The subjects were Civil Engineering students who attended Indonesian Language courses. Instagram features such as visual posts, carousel content, reels, comments, and interactive discussions were utilized to identify and correct language errors. The results showed that Instagram usage improved students’ ability to analyze Indonesian spelling errors. Students’ average scores increased from 68 in the pre-action stage to 76 in the first cycle and 86 in the second cycle. Furthermore, Instagram increased students’ motivation and engagement because language learning was connected to digital communication phenomena close to students’ daily experiences. Therefore, Instagram can be optimized as an innovative learning medium to improve Indonesian language literacy among Civil Engineering students at Medan State Polytechnic.
