Abstract

Teachers' pedagogical competence plays a crucial role in improving the quality of learning; however, many teachers still encounter challenges in lesson planning, classroom management, instructional methods, and learning evaluation. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of the principal of MTsS Dayah Terpadu Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe in developing teachers' pedagogical competence. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and educational staff. The findings reveal that the principal enhances teachers' pedagogical competence by performing strategic roles as an educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator (EMASLIM). These roles are implemented through continuous motivation, academic supervision, professional guidance, learning evaluation, and teacher coaching. Supporting factors include the principal's commitment, effective collaboration among school stakeholders, an Islamic boarding school environment, adequate educational facilities, and effective communication. Meanwhile, limited teacher preparedness in lesson planning, insufficient variation in teaching methods, time constraints, and limited learning resources remain major challenges. The implementation of these strategies contributes to improvements in lesson planning, classroom management, instructional practices, the use of learning media, and learning evaluation, thereby enhancing the overall quality of learning. It can be concluded that the principal plays a strategic role in fostering sustainable improvements in teachers' pedagogical competence and educational quality.
