UPAYA MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS DESCRIPTIVE TEXT MELALUI METODE RUNNING DICTATION DALAM PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS PADA SISWA KELAS V SDN KARET 01 PAGI

Abstract

Writing is a crucial skill in developing English language proficiency to convey ideas and experiences in a structured manner. At the elementary school level, writing activities are often considered difficult and boring by students. Based on the Merdeka Curriculum Phase C for Grade V, students are expected to be able to compose simple descriptive texts accurately; however, the reality of students' competence at SDN Karet 01 Pagi is still relatively low. This study aims to improve students' descriptive text writing skills through the implementation of the Running Dictation method. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), adapting the Kemmis and McTaggart model across two cycles with 30 fifth-grade students as subjects. Data were collected using written test instruments, observation sheets, interviews, documentation, and field notes. The results of the study indicated a significant improvement in each cycle. In cycle I, the average score for students' writing skills was 69 with a classical mastery percentage of 66.67%, while the action observation results showed teacher activity at 73.3% and student activity at 60%. In cycle II, the writing skills improved further, achieving a class average score of 82 and a classical mastery percentage of 83.33%. This improvement was also supported by the action observation results in cycle II, where teacher activity reached 93.33% and student activity stood at 86.67%. It can be concluded that the Running Dictation method is proven effective as an alternative innovative, collaborative, and engaging learning strategy to foster children's productive literacy.
