Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of self-monitoring training in reducing online gaming duration and improving academic focus among university students. Using a Single Subject Research (SSR) design with A-B design approach (Baseline and Intervention phases), one participant was observed over two weeks. The baseline phase (one week, seven days) recorded an average gaming duration of 3 hours and 26 minutes per day with high impulsivity and low self-regulation. During the intervention phase (10 days), the participant was trained in self-monitoring techniques including daily self-recording, behavioral contract, and goal-setting. Following the intervention and follow-up phase, daily gaming duration decreased to an average of 1 hour and 22 minutes a reduction of approximately 59.9% while self-regulation ability and academic focus showed consistent improvement. The findings align with previous studies confirming self-monitoring and self-control techniques as effective behavioral modification strategies for online gaming addiction in college students.
