Abstract

This study discusses the hadiths concerning the foundations and objectives of education from an Islamic perspective using a qualitative approach based on library research. The first hadith, narrated by Imam al-Bukhari, explains that trustworthiness (amanah) was first instilled in the human heart, followed by the revelation of the Qur'an and the teaching of the Sunnah as guidance for life. This hadith indicates that the foundation of Islamic education begins with the cultivation of the heart (faith and moral character), continues with the acquisition of knowledge through the Qur'an and Sunnah, and is manifested in the practice of Islamic values. The second hadith, narrated by Abu Dawud, emphasizes the objectives of Islamic education, namely to develop individuals who are pious, capable of correcting mistakes through good deeds, and possess noble character in social interactions. The results of the analysis show that Islamic education is not merely oriented toward the transfer of knowledge but also toward the formation of an Islamic personality (syakhsiyah islamiyah) based on faith, morality, and moral responsibility. By taking the Qur'an and Sunnah as its primary foundations, Islamic education aims to produce individuals who are faithful, knowledgeable, and of noble character, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities as servants of Allah and vicegerents (khalifah) on earth.
