PENERARAN HUKUMAN SEBAGAI UPAYA PENINGKATAN DISIPLIN PENGAJIAN KITAB DAN SHALAT BERJAMAAH MAHASANTRI PUTRI MA’HAD AL-JAMI’AH UNHASY TEBUIRENG

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of fostering discipline among female students (mahasantri) in participating in kitab studies and congregational prayers as an integral part of character development within the Islamic boarding school environment. However, in practice, some students still demonstrate a lack of discipline, such as arriving late, failing to attend activities consistently, or violating established regulations. To address these issues, Ma’had Al-Jami’ah of Hasyim Asy’ari University (UNHASY) Tebuireng Jombang implements a punishment system as one of the strategies to improve students’ discipline and compliance with institutional rules.The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of punishment in enhancing discipline in kitab studies and congregational prayers, identify the forms of punishment applied, and analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the ma’had administrators and female students as research informants. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the implementation of punishment at Ma’had Al-Jami’ah UNHASY is carried out gradually, educationally, and according to the level of violations committed by the students. The forms of punishment include additional assignments, Qur’anic recitation, memorization tasks, and administrative sanctions. The implementation of these punishments has proven effective in increasing students’ awareness and discipline in attending kitab studies and congregational prayers. The success of this system is supported by the consistency of the administrators, clear regulations, and students’ awareness, while the obstacles include differences in individual characteristics and varying levels of student motivation.
