PENGARUH PENDEKATAN REALISTIC MATHEMATICS EDUCATION TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH MATEMATIS PESERTA DIDIK KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 21 PADANG

This study aimed to describe the development of students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and to determine whether the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students taught using the RME approach were better than those of students taught using a conventional approach. This study employed a quantitative approach with descriptive and quasi-experimental research methods using the Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design. Data were collected through mathematical problem-solving quizzes and a final test and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students taught using the RME approach improved throughout the learning process, with the average quiz score increasing from 67.05 to 85.56. The hypothesis test yielded a p-value of 0.007, which was lower than 0.05, indicating that H₀ was rejected. Therefore, the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students taught using the RME approach were significantly better than those of students taught using the conventional approach.
