REPRESENTASI BUDAYA DALAM NOVEL BRIANNA DAN BOTTOMWISE KARYA ANDREA HIRATA DAN PEMANFAATANNYA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN TEKS NOVEL DI SMA: KAJIAN ANTROPOLOGI SASTRA

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of cultural elements in the novel Brianna dan Bottomwise by Andrea Hirata based on Koentjaraningrat's seven universal cultural elements, and to describe their utilization in teaching novel texts at senior high school level. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literary anthropology approach. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques from the novel. The results show that the novel represents all seven universal cultural elements: (1) language, reflected in the use of Malay dialect and kinship terms; (2) knowledge system, covering geographical and musical knowledge; (3) technology and equipment systems, including musical instruments, weapons, and vehicles; (4) livelihood systems, covering the professions of musician, journalist, police officer, and detective; (5) religious system, reflected in expressions of faith; (6) arts, particularly Malay music and popular music; and (7) social system, reflected in mutual cooperation values and marriage traditions. These findings can be utilized as learning materials for novel texts in senior high school, particularly in identifying cultural values and analyzing extrinsic elements of literary works in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum.
