PENGARUH KOMPETENSI CREW DALAM MELAKSANAKAN LASHING SYSTEM TERHADAP KESELAMATAN OPERASIONAL DI KMP SHITA GIRI NUSA

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of crew competence in implementing the lashing system on ship operational safety at KMP Shita Giri Nusa. The study was based on cargo shifting incidents caused by improper lashing practices, which may affect ship stability and increase maritime accident risk. This research used a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The population consisted of 27 crew members involved in cargo securing activities, and all members were selected as samples through saturated sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with SPSS. The results show that crew competence has a positive and significant effect on ship operational safety, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.472 indicates that 47.2% of ship operational safety is influenced by crew competence, while 52.8% is explained by other factors beyond this study. These findings confirm that improving crew competence through training, supervision, and consistent implementation of safety procedures is essential to strengthen operational safety on Ro-Ro vessels
