Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of basic billiard stroking techniques in beginner players, characterized by a lack of straightness of strokes, movement stability, power control, and stroke consistency. This condition is generally caused by the use of conventional learning methods that emphasize imitation of movements without providing a deep understanding of the concepts and principles of correct movement. This study aims to determine the effect of the guided discovery method on basic billiard stroking techniques in beginner players. The study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method and a Two Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 20 beginner billiard players who were divided into two groups, namely 10 people in the experimental group who were given treatment using the guided discovery method and 10 people in the control group who used conventional learning methods. The research instrument was a billiard stroking skills test that included aspects of straightness of strokes, movement stability, power control, and stroke consistency. Data analysis was carried out through descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Levene Test homogeneity test, the Paired Sample t-Test, and the Independent Sample t-Test. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an average score increase from 52.10 to 74.20, representing a 22.10-point increase, while the control group only experienced a 5.60-point increase. The hypothesis test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the guided discovery method on basic billiard stroking techniques. Thus, the guided discovery method has proven effective in improving basic billiard stroking techniques in beginner players.
