Abstract

Geo-STAR is a technology-based learning media that integrates the use of digital maps, spatial visualization, and regional exploration activities to support the understanding of geographic concepts contextually. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Geo-STAR on students' spatial thinking skills in the E phase of geography subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Batusangkar. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental with a purposive sampling technique with a sample of class X E9 as the experimental class and class X E8 as the control class. Spatial thinking skills were measured based on spatial thinking indicators according to Jo & Bednarz (primitive spatial, simple spatial and complex spatial). Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using t-tests, as well as n-Gain analysis with the help of IBM SPSS version 25 software. The results of statistical tests with the help of SPSS version 25 showed a paired sample t-test showing a significance value (Sig.2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05. This indicates a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the experimental class. Based on the analysis, the results obtained show that the implementation of Geo-STAR assisted by geospatial technology can improve students' spatial thinking skills in the geography subject phase E at SMA Negeri 1 Batusangkar.
