Abstract

Indonesia experienced a decline of 13 points in the PISA mathematics score from 2018, achieving a score of 366 in 2022, which is still below the international average of 472. Low numeracy achievement, especially in number content, is influenced by differences in students’ learning styles, namely visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This study aimed to describe junior high school students’ numeracy skills based on these learning styles in number content. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with three students of class VIII-E at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya as subjects, each representing different learning styles and having high and equivalent mathematical abilities. Data were collected through learning style questionnaires, mathematics ability tests, AKM number content tests, and interviews. The results showed that visual learners were able to communicate mathematical ideas through drawings and written explanations and draw correct conclusions. Auditory learners were able to transform contextual problems into mathematical symbols and provide logical reasons for the patterns used. Meanwhile, kinesthetic learners demonstrated the ability to use mathematical symbols and operations in solving problems, although they still made errors in certain arithmetic sequence operations.
