This study aims to determine the influence of the problem-based learning model on
students' problem-solving ability in mathematics subjects in addition and subtraction
of fractions in grade IV of SDN 040454 Peceren. The background of this research is
based on the low ability of students to solve problems and understand learning
materials, especially in addition and subtraction materials because the learning
process is still centered on the teacher. This type of research is a quantitative research
using the Pre-experiment method with a One-Group Pre- test-Post-test Design
research design. The research sample consisted of all grade IV students totaling 30
students. The technique used is a non-probability sampling technique with a saturated
sampling type because the sample is not selected randomly and this study only uses
one class, namely an experimental class that is taught using a problem-based learning
model. The results showed that the average student pre-test score was 64.3, after
treatment the average student post-test score increased to 81.3. In addition, the
results of the normality test showed a significance value of > 0.05 in the pre-test and
the results of the Paired Sample T-test showed a sig. value of 0.000 < 0.05 which
means that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values
in the experimental class. Thus, this study concludes that the application of the
problem-based learning model has a positive and significant effect on students'
mathematical problem-solving ability in addition and fraction reduction materials
