IMPLEMENTASI MODEL ROUND TABLE DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MENULIS TEKS BERITA PADA SISWA KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 25 MEDAN

Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the round table type in learning to write news texts for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Medan, to describe the challenges faced by teachers, and to describe students’ experiences during the learning process using the round table model. This research used a qualitative descriptive method with data sources consisting of an Indonesian language teacher and seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Medan. The data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research showed that the implementation of the round table model in learning to write news texts had been carried out well in accordance with the learning procedures. The implementation of the round table model made students more active, enthusiastic, confident in expressing opinions, and able to cooperate in groups. The challenges faced by the teacher included forming heterogeneous groups, managing learning time, differences in students’ abilities, and assessing group work results. To overcome these obstacles, the teacher formed heterogeneous groups, divided group tasks clearly, and managed learning time more effectively. In addition, students gave positive responses to the implementation of the round table model because the learning process felt more exciting, interesting, and enjoyable compared to conventional learning. Thus, the round table learning model can be an effective alternative learning model in teaching news text writing for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Medan.
