Abstract

The low level of students’ understanding of multiplication and division concepts in elementary schools is influenced by teacher-centered learning and limited use of interactive learning media. Therefore, innovative digital-based learning media are needed to improve students’ motivation and conceptual understanding. This study aimed to develop an Android-based educational game called MathSpinners that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ understanding of multiplication and division concepts. The study focused on the development of game-based learning media using the Hannafin and Peck development model, which consists of three stages: needs assessment, design, and development and implementation. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach. The study was conducted in an elementary school with students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, user response questionnaires, and conceptual understanding tests. Data analysis techniques used descriptive quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results showed that the MathSpinners game was categorized as highly feasible by media and material experts, practical for students to use, and effective in improving students’ understanding of multiplication and division concepts. In conclusion, the MathSpinners educational game can be used as an innovative and effective learning medium in elementary mathematics learning. It is recommended that teachers integrate this game into classroom instruction and that future researchers enhance the game features and learning content.
