PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN MEDIA CODING BOOKS TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN BERHITUNG AWAL ANAK USIA 5-6 TAHUN

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using coding books on the early counting skills of children aged 5-6 years at TK Islam Palapa. Counting skills in children aged 5-6 years include various basic abilities, such as recognizing symbols and signs, matching the number of objects or pictures with numerical symbols, and performing simple arithmetic operations. This study uses a quantitative research type with a quasi-experimental approach employing a non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study consists of 44 Palapa Islamic kindergarten children aged 5-6 years, comprising 20 samples with 10 in the control group and 10 in the experimental group. The experimental group was treated with coding books as media, while the control group engaged in learning with magazines. Data collection techniques were carried out thru observation, tests, and documentation. Data analysis in this study used descriptive statistical analysis and non-parametric statistical tests, namely the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, with the help of the SPSS Statistics 25 application. The research results showed a significant increase in the average score in the experimental group from a pretest score of 11.90 to a posttest score of 20.80. Meanwhile, the control group also experienced an increase, with a pretest score of 11.50 and a posttest score of 17.50, but this was lower compared to the increase in the experimental group. The statistical test used the Wilcoxon signed ranks test on the experimental group, which obtained a Z value of -2.816b with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) significance value of 0.005 or less than 0.05 (0.005 < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the use of coding books media has an impact on improving the early counting skills of children aged 5–6 years at TK Islam Palapa.
