PERBEDAAN INTENSI MENDALAMI JURNALISME INVESTIGASI MAHASISWA SEBELUM DAN SESUDAH MENONTON FILM DOKUMENTER

Abstract

Investigative journalism plays an important role amid the rise of digital misinformation, yet this profession lacks interest among journalism students due to concerns over risks, salary, and limited practical application during college, creating a need for media that can visually demonstrate the investigative reporting process in a realistic way. This study aims to examine differences in students' intentions to pursue investigative journalism before and after watching the documentary film Neraka Perbatasan: Jejak Mafia Judi Online dan Perbudakan Digital di Asia, as well as comparing post-test results between the control and experimental groups. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory, and involving 60 journalism students of UIN SGD Bandung. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a statistically significant change with a Wilcoxon test value of < 0.001, while the control group showed no meaningful change with a value of 0.688. The N-Gain score of the experimental group was 0.099, categorized as low, as a single screening without supplementary methods was not sufficient to produce a larger change in intention. Nevertheless, the documentary film proved capable of providing a positive change in students' intentions to pursue investigative journalism.
