BENTUK DAN FUNGSI TUTURAN IMPERATIF DALAM INTERAKSI POLISI PADA ACARA 86 & COSTUM PROTECTION NET : SEBUAH ANALISIS PRAGMATIK

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and functions of imperative utterances in police interactions on the 86 & Custom Protection NET programs on YouTube. The study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were obtained from eleven episodes selected purposively through listening and note-taking techniques. Data analysis used Rahardi's theory of imperative utterance forms and Leech's theory of imperative utterance functions. The results showed five forms of imperative utterances: ordinary imperatives, requests, permission granting, invitations, and orders. The most dominant form was the ordinary imperative because it was used to convey direct and firm commands. The functions of imperative utterances found included competitive, pleasant, cooperative, and conflicting functions. The most dominant function was the conflicting function because police interactions mostly took place in law enforcement and control situations. This study shows that imperative utterances not only function as a means of giving commands, but also reflect communication strategies and power relations in the context of policing in digital media.
