Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of transformational leadership of madrasa principals in improving teacher performance amid the increasing demands for educational quality enhancement. Teacher performance at MTsN 1 Tana Toraja still encounters several challenges, including limited innovation in teaching methods, inconsistent discipline, and insufficient utilization of educational technology in the learning process. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the implementation of transformational leadership by the madrasa principal, examine teacher performance in terms of planning, implementation, evaluation, follow-up, and learning administration, and identify the supporting factors influencing the success of transformational leadership in improving teacher performance. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the transformational leadership of the madrasa principal at MTsN 1 Tana Toraja was effectively implemented through four main aspects: role modeling, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. These leadership practices positively contributed to teacher performance improvement. Teachers generally demonstrated good performance in preparing lesson plans, implementing learning using varied methods, conducting evaluations, and carrying out follow-up activities and administrative responsibilities. Furthermore, the success of transformational leadership was supported by collaboration among teachers, effective communication, a conducive working environment, training opportunities, and support from educational policies. In conclusion, transformational leadership plays a significant role in sustainably improving teacher performance and strengthening the quality of education in the madrasa environment.
