Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of human evolution concepts in the educational comic WHY? Human Being Series and evaluate its suitability as a learning resource for Science and Social Studies (IPAS) in elementary school. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis of the comic’s text, dialogues, and visual illustrations. The analysis was conducted through the categorization of basic evolutionary concepts, evolutionary mechanisms, visual representations, educational narratives, potential misconceptions, and the feasibility of the comic as a learning resource. The results showed that the comic represents human evolution concepts through explanations of human origins, stages of physical development, adaptation, and natural selection supported by visual illustrations and communicative storytelling. Although potential misconceptions due to oversimplification of concepts were identified, the comic was considered suitable as a supplementary learning resource for IPAS learning in elementary school.
