Abstract

This study aims to describe the problem-solving abilities of fifth-grade students at SDN 10 Tiga Desa in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), as well as to identify the influencing factors. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, involving 23 fifth-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through tests and interviews. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that students’ problem-solving abilities remain at moderate to low levels. Students encounter difficulties, particularly in planning strategies and reviewing final outcomes. Most students tend to memorize concepts rather than understand and apply them in real-life contexts. Factors influencing these abilities include internal aspects such as motivation, self-confidence, and learning habits, as well as external aspects such as learning strategies and environmental support. It is concluded that students’ problem-solving abilities need to be enhanced through learning approaches that actively train students to think systematically, critically, and creatively.
