EFEKTIVITAS METODE SILENT WAY DENGAN MEDIA WORDWALL DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MAHARAH KALAM

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Silent Way method combined with Wordwall media in improving the Arabic speaking skill (maharah kalam) of eighth-grade students at MTs Al-Mu’aawanah Pemulutan. The research problem arises from the low speaking ability of students, characterized by a lack of confidence, participation, and active engagement during learning activities. This study employs a mixed-methods approach—quantitative and qualitative—using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The research procedure consisted of administering a pre-test, conducting the instructional treatment, and giving a post-test to measure learning improvement. The sample consisted of 27 students. Quantitative results indicate that the average pre-test score of 62.51 increased significantly to 84.29 on the post-test, with 24 students surpassing the minimum mastery criterion. The paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a significant difference between students’ scores before and after the treatment. The N-Gain score of 0.5753 (57.52%) indicates a moderate level of improvement. Qualitative findings from classroom observations revealed that the Silent Way method and Wordwall enhanced students’ speaking confidence, focus, and engagement, creating a more interactive learning environment. The novelty of this study lies in integrating the Silent Way method with the Wordwall digital platform to improve maharah kalam at the junior secondary level. Thus, the combination of these strategies proved effective in enhancing students’ Arabic speaking skills.
