The pedagogical competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers plays a strategic role in improving the quality of learning, particularly in developing students' Qur'an reading skills. The ability to read the Qur'an is a basic competency that students must possess as a foundation for understanding and practicing Islamic teachings. However, the reality in the field shows that there is still a gap between teachers' pedagogical competence and students' Qur'an reading abilities, especially in the aspects of lesson planning, the use of varied learning methods, classroom management, and the use of effective learning media. This study aims to analyze the pedagogical competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in improving students' Qur'an reading abilities at Al-Falah Islamic Junior High School in Jambi City and identify the factors that influence it. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation with PAI teachers and students as research subjects. The results show that the improvement in Qur'an reading abilities is influenced by teachers' pedagogical competence, which includes effective lesson planning, the use of the talaqqi method, comprehensive assessment, and providing motivation through role models and a humanistic approach. The talaqqi method has proven effective through a process of imitating the teacher's reading, direct correction, and continuous repetition. Assessment is carried out not only on reading fluency, but also on the accuracy of pronunciation, application of tajweed, and understanding of meaning. Teacher pedagogical competence is influenced by internal factors, school environmental support, student characteristics, and the curriculum and educational policies. Continuous improvement of teacher competence through reflection, training, and the use of technology is key to success in developing students who are fluent in reading and love the Quran.
