PERKEMBANGAN BAHASA GAUL DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA DAN DAMPAKNYA TERHADAP BAHASA INDONESIA BAKU

Abstract

Language serves as an essential communication tool in the process of interaction

and learning, particularly within the higher education context for students in the

Indonesian Language and Literature Education program. Amid technological

advancements and the proliferation of social media, the phenomenon of slang

language usage among students is increasingly widespread. This research aims to

examine the impact of slang language use on students' ability to employ standard

Indonesian language accurately and according to established norms. The research

method utilized is a literature study with a qualitative approach, through the analysis

of various relevant literature. The findings indicate that while slang language can

strengthen social relationships and reflect linguistic creativity, excessive use may

diminish formal language skills and hinder intergenerational communication.

Therefore, it is crucial for students to maintain the use of proper and correct

Indonesian language, especially in academic and formal contexts, without

completely rejecting the existence of slang language as part of linguistic dynamics.
