Reading skills are a crucial basic ability for elementary school students, especially in the early stages of education. This research aims to evaluate the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Montessori Card media on improving the reading skills of second grade elementary school students. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with an experimental design. The research subjects involved 39 class II students at Kebon Kopi State Elementary School, Bogor, who were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group used the Discovery Learning model with Montessori Card media, while the control group used conventional learning methods. Data is collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, such as reading tests that measure the ability to understand texts and read fluently.The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in reading speed and text comprehension compared to the control group. Using Montessori Cards helps students identify letters and words concretely, thereby increasing their self-confidence and motivation to learn. However, some students require more intensive assistance, especially those who have low concentration or are often absent. This research makes an important contribution in developing effective discovery-based learning methods, as well as highlighting the importance of using concrete media in supporting inclusive learning. It is hoped that the Discovery Learning model assisted by Montessori media can be a reference for teachers in choosing learning approaches and media that are able to optimally improve students' literacy skills.Downloads
