Abstract

This study evaluates the role of distance learning (DL) in promoting educational equity in Indonesia. Education is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of strategic development. Despite government efforts to ensure equitable access to education, data from the Central Statistics Agency shows that the Net Enrollment Rate for high school-aged children in 2021 was only 61.65%, indicating disparities in access to advanced education. Distance learning offers a potential solution by providing flexibility in time and location, increasing educational accessibility, and reducing the costs associated with conventional education. This study employs a descriptive analysis and literature review methodology to collect and assess data from various sources. The findings suggest that DL can help address significant geographical, social, and economic challenges, enabling more equitable distribution of educational resources and enhancing students' digital skills. However, challenges such as limited internet access, the need for technological training for teachers and students, and the lack of direct social interaction must be addressed to ensure the effectiveness of DL in promoting educational equity. In conclusion, by overcoming these challenges, distance learning can be an effective solution for achieving educational equity in Indonesia.
