Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using PhET virtual laboratory media on science learning motivation in junior high school (SMP) students. The subjects of this research were students in class VIII-B SMPN 2 Jombang. Increasing students' learning motivation is seen from students' activeness, percentage of classical completion and students' responses regarding the virtual media of the PhET laboratory. The instruments used were observation sheets and questionnaire sheets. This type of research is classroom action research. This class action research was carried out in 2 cycles. The results obtained in this research were that there was an increase in students' learning motivation in cycle I and cycle II. The results obtained in cycle I showed that students' learning motivation was still in the low category. In cycle II, learning motivation increased to the very high category. Increasing student learning motivation is also seen from student learning outcomes. The average learning outcome in cycle I was 78.56 while the learning outcome in cycle II was 82.03. The conclusion of this research is that the PhET laboratory virtual media can increase students' learning motivation.
