Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement in student learning outcomes in social studies learning by implementing the TaRL (Teaching at The Right Level) approach. This type of research is classroom action research. The research subjects used 1 class VII SMP as many as 38 students at SMP Negeri 14 Surabaya. Classroom Action Research by observing in class and giving tests and assignments to students in social studies learning. The results of the research show that the results of social studies learning on economic activity material before using the Teaching At Right Level (TaRL) approach. During the pre-cycle, the percentage of students' learning completion was (29%) with a class average of 58%. Meanwhile, in cycle I the average class score reached 72% with a completeness level of 59%, and in cycle II the average class score reached 77% with a completeness level of 76%. Students feel happy during the social studies learning process with the implementation of the TaRL approach because they are grouped according to their respective ability levels and students like working together in groups to complete the tasks given. The research that has been carried out shows that the TaRL approach can improve student learning outcomes. Keywords:  learning outcomes, TaRL approach, social studies learning
