Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the effectiveness of literature circle and small group discussion in improving the ability of 4th grade elementary students to understand the content of reading text. As well to find out the difference in the results of understanding the content of reading texts in Indonesian learning using the literature circle and small group discussion methods. This study used a type of experimental research with a Non-equivalent Control Group design. This research activity involved two groups who were given a pre-test, then different treatments, and post-test. The schools sampled in this study amounted to two schools with 18 students each. The treatment was given to each group, the control group using the small group discussion method, and the experimental group using the literature circle method. The average post-test results of each group have a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000. Looking at the basis of taking the hypothesis test If the result of the Significance value (2-tailed) < 0.05, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So it was concluded that the Literature Circle method was significantly superior than Small Group Discussion (DKK) method in improving the ability to understand the content of student reading text.
