Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the role of Commission for Indonesian Child Protection of North Sumatera Region in providing protection for child in conflict with law. The method used in this study is descriptive method.  The author take the location of study at Commission for Indonesian Child Protection of North Sumatera Region.   The participants of this study only 5 people who are Commissioner in Commission for Indonesian Child Protection of North Sumatera Region.  Data collection technique used to obtain data is observation, interview and documentation. As for data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusion/verification. In this study, it is obtained the result that the cases of children in conflict with law which are included in denunciation list of Commission for Indonesian Child Protection of North Sumatera Region are dominated by theft, sexual harassment and fighting. Commission for Indonesian Child Protection of North Sumatera Region has the mission to prevent the child being jailed by putting forward problem solution beyond formal judicial process (diversion) and by offering form of sanction in fostering children in conflict with law for the sake of their future.  Fostering, supervision and coordination with whole people concerned with child protection are continually done in order to make them aware of child protection issue.
